HERE ARE SOME HINTS THAT MAY HELP THE NEW AND THE EXPERIENCED CHINA PAINTER.
PEN WORK
Use a mixture of sugar water (or any non diet pop) and dry paint for pen work this flows nicely and dries quickly. It can even be painted over with your regular oil mixed paints and will not come off. Let this mixture dry and just add a little 7-up the next time you are ready to use it.
If you have a new pen nib that has a coating on it and will not let the ink flow, use a lighter or candle and just pass the pen nib over the flame.
Anise oil makes a good pen oil, also pine oil, lamp oil also some people use equal parts of "Equal" (the sugar substitute) and powdered paint, thinned with water. There are also many good pen oils on the market.
GOLD
Fire gold at 018, no hotter than 016, too hot will cause it to crack.
Clean aea to be covered with acetone before painting.
Use Gold Essence for thinning liquid bright gold and Gold Facilitator for thinning roman or burnish gold.
Always leave a peep hole open and prop lid and fire one hour on low, then one on medium. Then you may close the lid when turning to high.
A drop or two of liquid bright gold in a bottle of Mother of pearl will make it more colorful, too much will make it gray.
MISCELLANEOUS TIPS
To hold small objects like eggs, glue them onto a small broken tile. |The glue will burn off when you fire it. Or use Fun-Tac the same way.
